Some people are in love with language, and others are in love with literature. In this edition of Link Lasso I’m going to be highlighting some stuff I’ve found that pertains to both. (It’s been awhile since I’ve done this, so these links go back aways…)

First language. Stephen Fry has some words on pedantry and grammatical correctness that are a treat for the eyes as well as the ears thanks to some animation. An article in The Atlantic explores the effect that writing technologies have on how we speak, how we think, and how we dialogue.

The art of language is known as literature, and putting language into narrative is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Here’s a conversation between two movie critics about filmmakers who wilfully abandon the traditional Hollywood structure to experiment. Documentarian Ken Burns explains why he loves to tell stories. And Lev Grossman, book reviewer for TIME, gives some thoughts on his career and the nature of criticism.

Doubt plays a big part of your life when you become a writer, and some writers are big enough to admit it. An essayist examines the role of doubt in that literary form, and an author admits that he doesn’t know how to write fiction because fiction is everywhere.

And finally a fun little video to end on a laugh. Because that’s what Shakespeare would have wanted.
